Tuesday 13 June 2023 - Saffle to Nr. Sveg

Nobody came asking for money so nobody got paid - we didn't use any facilities so conscience is clear. Sort of. Another nice warm sunny morning and with nothing further to do just walk the dog, breakfast and on our way. Nellie not playing again this morning, although we did sort out the problem later, but it didn't really matter as our route for the next couple of days is stick to the E45.

Sweden is a very clean country, no litter, very little graffiti and everything is neat and tidy, even the many industrial areas we passed. The roads are generally in very good condition and the verges etc well maintained. We noticed that lupins seemed to be the favoured roadside colour and lilac was also popular in gardens etc. Traffic was generally light and we were able to keep up a good average speed. However there are lots of cameras, all of them signed beforehand but we still needed to watch for them. TomTom knows where they are too, but I've just discovered his warning beep was turned off...................... As we headed north so the weather clouded over although it never looked to threaten any more than that and anyway improved to sunshine later in the day. A tad cooler so we were able to run without the aircon, thus helping the fuel consumption a little.

Lunch was at a rastplatz in the middle of nowhere but had a toilet disposal point which was handy but alas no (potable) water - we won't use the tap provided to flush toilet cassettes! Sorted Nellie then on our way, pausing at the smart and attractive town of Mora for fuel. Most of the time we were travelling along wood and forest lined roads with the occasional view of some of the many lakes that abound in Sweden. Tried a few photos with the small camera but that seems to have gone on the blink too - we'll try again later and apologise for now for the lack of photies. Those we have have been taken with our phones.

Approaching our usual end of day time, we started looking for an overnight stopping place. We really only need somewhere to park which is just as well as dedicated m/h areas are a bit sparse hereabouts. We did go off track to look at something promising but some of the many other motorhomers we're seeing had already filled it up. Never mind, Park4Night came up with a couple of other ideas and we settled on a place on a track to nowhere where there was enough room for a couple of vans, far enough off the road to be secluded. Quite a lot of flies and midges around so vents and windows covered with the nets, citronella candles deployed and the extractor fan set to encourage a cooling airflow.

A late tea then an hour or so of logs, blogs and checking out plans for the next few days. It looks like we're still almost 3 days from the starting point of our Norwegian tour at Narvik - we hope we've allowed enough time to complete it! Meanwhile it's now approaching 10.00pm and the sun is still shining.
