Thursday 8 June 2023 - Gladbach to Oldenburg

The traffic noise decreased significantly, or maybe we just crashed out, but we had a quiet night and despite wanting to stay in bed, forced ourselves up as we had a lot of lost time to make up. Away just after 10.00 we, once again, turned the wrong way with TomTom still being difficult but we eventually got back onto our planned route, which for the rest of the day is a single autobahn, the A1, all the way to Puttgarden and the Denmark ferry.

But that didn't stop it being incredibly busy with loads of holdups, mainly at all the big junctions and exacerbated by roadworks. Although we did manage to keep up a good speed we often were down to 1st and 2nd gear which won't help the fuel consumption (which we haven't checked up to now). Every now and again TT "suggested" a "better" route but we studiously avoided the temptation after yesterdays shenanigans!

Refuelled just south of Bremen but no parking there so stopped at the next restplatz for a quick lunch as we were really not making up the lost time. At least the weather was beautiful and the aircon was most welcome, we being sure to enable a flow of cold air to Jamie in his cage. Poor little mite, he's been so good about being cooped up for hours on end so we have made certain that he's let out at every stop. So we pressed on and eventually, very late in the afternoon, we were within reach of the ferry and paused briefly to find a stopover, noting with interest that the closer to the ferry the more expensive the stellplatz were. We chose the Wallmuseum at Oldenberg which offered a pleasant enough pitch for not too much money and parked up. We could have stopped for free across the road, but that was a lorry/coach park and not all that attractive - we do have standards you know!

It has been another very long and very warm day - 30 deg in the van when we stopped although once the sun went down so did the temperature. Tea, made a start on this blog then an early night as TomTom was still showing traffic holdups even into the early evening.
