Saturday 10 June 2023 - Mellbystrand

Meet Bryan

After five solid days of travelling we're all in need of a break so, as mentioned, we decided to stay over on this pleasant site for the weekend. We've got everything we need and the weather forecast is great so with the batteries already fully recharged by the solar before we got up it's time to relax. A little bit of tidying up and a sweep out, the chairs, table and awning deployed then some sunshine to be enjoyed whilst watching most of the overnighting motorhomes departing.

No sign of the owners, the place seems to very much run itself as booking in etc. is all done via their website. There are currently around 14 pitches with some overspill in the parking area but there has been a lot of building going on and a new "paddock" looks to be almost completed, doubling the number of pitches. A new small toilet and shower block, useable but still requiring some finishing touches, has been constructed and there is a large room in the building that maybe will become a bar/clubroom but is for now mostly building and decorating paraphernalia. The usual waste disposal points have been constructed and of course a water point and rubbish disposal. The cost is equivalent to around £21.50 per night with electricity available on some pitches although we don't use it so don't recall the price - all in all not too excessive considering what is available. It obviously is acceptable as by early evening all but two pitches had been taken - I know this sounds like an advert but it seems to be located very conveniently for those transiting north or south via the Helsingborg ferry and we'd recommend it. It's on Park4Night.

Lunch alfresco then T started bringing the blog up-to-date whilst B finished off the latest member of our soft toy family, Bryan (with a Y). A nice breeze started to develop so, just in case, we attached the awning tie-downs but they were never really needed. Our usual afternoon cuppa then as the temperature started to ease we took Jamie down to the nearby beach, a lovely stretch of sand with shallow calm waters and obviously popular. Half an hour of chasing his ball with an occasional paddle saw Jamie a little tired out - he's really not getting enough exercise being cooped up in the van all day, something we need to address - so back to the van to watch the new arrivals. Guests are requested to park with their habitation doors facing south so that everyone has a 4m patch of grass to enjoy, which is fine. However because our door is opposite to continental vans we were parked nose-in to the fence - so a couple of arrivals did the same, not reading the signs so they ended up sharing! Later folk did it right though when we pointed this out and we did notice a van turning round on their pitch late in the evening..............

A late tea, occasionally shutting up Jamie who objected to all the other dogs (and a cat!) invading "his" garden, then shut all the blinds because we're not all that far from the "land of the Midnight Sun" and it's still light enough to read at 11.00pm.
