15 June 2023 - Hoting to Luspebryggan

Hoting to Luspebryggan - 322 miles

The early night proved most beneficial and we were up bright and early into another glorious day with little to do apart from walk Jamie and have breakfast. Then back onto the Inlandsvagen with good roads and light traffic whilst we enjoyed yet more scenery. For now we don't have much else to say we haven't already, Sweden is a lovely country to travel through. Saw our first few reindeer, well actually nearly ran them down when they appeared around a large truck we were following!

Not sure which one is Rudolph

Paused for fuel at Vilhelmina, named after a Swedish kings wife as was Dorotea, not that it was urgent but there is little difference in prices, maybe a cent or two at automated pumps and it's nice to keep at least a quarter tank in reserve.

The early start meant we drove for quite a bit longer than the last few days so a comfort stop was needed by the time we reached the larger town of Aruidsjau, a layby next to a public park for Jamie being perfectly adequate. Lunch and an hour later saw us back on the E34 heading for Jokkmokk and the Arctic Circle, but the cafe/shop/visitor centre was strangely closed so no new souvenirs for us. Instead we emptied the loo (do it at every opportunity!) and also topped off the water tank, another necessary task, before enjoying one of the small iced lollies we keep in the freezer whilst checking out a night stop.

Not far up the road was what was supposed to be a stalplatz but we didn't really like the look of it, neither apparently does anybody else because it was empty, unusual at this time of day. But a number of alternatives were available after another short drive and we found a nature reserve with a large gravel carpark just a minute off the main road. The one negative was that it is alongside a railway line, but this is the Inlandsbahnen which we've been following now for several days and is actually a tourist attarction in itself. Luckily we've never seen a train on it (yet!) and Google suggests the next one is at the weekend - it doesn't look very well used so hopefully we won't be disturbed. Meanwhile citronella candles have again been lit as, being close to a lake, the aerial population is rampant.

So this will do for us tonight and we'll have another early night. We're now within a days drive of Narvik where our tour proper is planned to start - it's been a long but pleasant drive so maybe we'll find a campsite for a couple of nights to do some domestics. We'll also need to refill the gas bottles and replenish the larder ready for being off grid for likely a week.

Still haven't resolved the problem with the camera, might need to get a bit more technically devious! So here's a couple using my phone.
