Friday 9 June 2023 - Oldenberg to Mellbystrand

As planned up early again to allow plenty of time to get to the ferry. Away by 10.00 Nellie wouldn't play but now TomTom was okay - not that it mattered because the ferry has been signposted for a long while. Happily we had next to no more holdups and we thus arrived well over an hour early. Stopping just long enough to check in, we were directed to a queue which in fact was already loading so straight onto the ship, departing before we'd got up to the lounge decks. It was only a 45 minute crossing so we found seats in the sunshine and enjoyed a smooth trip. Disembarkation was equally as rapid and in no time we were on the motorway heading for Copenhagen - and Nellie woke up! A short stop to walk Jamie and later lunch just south of Copenhagen.

Roads very busy again but no holdups this time and we made good time to Helsingor and the Sweden ferry, which again we were all but directed straight onto. Barely enough time for the loo and a couple of photos, we were called back to our vehicle after the 20 minute crossing and decanted out into the very busy and much larger city of Helsingborg. Don't know if we were supposed to stop and declare Jamie but a German group with a large Alsation stuffed into the back of the car in front didn't so neither did we - well Jamie does have a European passport. We hadn't really checked the details of our onward journey so for a short while it became a bit hit and miss but we were clear of the city fairly quickly and onto the motorway heading for Gothenburg (Goteborg), Nellie coming into her own for once.

Perhaps I should point out here, Nellie is running Windows XP and Microsoft Autoroute 2013. Who needs modern stuff?

Our sort of plan was to stop somewhere to get some local currency and do a bit of shopping but, probably because we were on a motorway, we never saw an opportunity. So as the day was wearing on we once again took a short break and over a cuppa picked out a stellplaz, or rather stallplatz in Sweden, that looked like it took cards and was not ridiculously expensive. The plan evolved into an overnight stop, do a proper domestic on the van then obtain currency and shopping tomorrow, so we arrived with that in mind. Very helpful owners got us booked in and settled on a very nice pitch with lots of sunshine so it was chairs out and a nice cold drink to relax after another long hot day, although thankfully not as stressful as the last four have been.

As the sun went down we had tea then decided that we'd stay here for the weekend - we have plenty of supplies on board and we really all could do with a break. And there appears to be a beach close by for Jamie too.

So pitch rebooked, followed by a quick phone call to Barclays who had decided to block Terrys mobile banking service, quite handy right at the start of the trip! As I write it's 10.30pm, still light but getting cool however the forecast for the next few days is brilliant.
